Everything You Should Know About Earth Day

How Does Earth Day Originate?

F"Father of Earth Day" Dennis Hayes grew up in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge in Washington State, USA. He has developed a nature-loving personality since he was a child. When he was in college, although he studied law, he never gave up his concern for environmental issues. After the first "Earth Day" event, Hayes, known as the "Father of Earth Day", successively served in the Smithsonian Institute and the Illinois State Government to study and formulate energy-related policies. Later, he was appreciated by James Rodney Schlesinger, the then U.S. Secretary of Energy, and served as the director of the Solar Energy Research Institute run by the Department of Energy. Hayes has always been involved in environmental activities. In 1990, he and friends discussed organizing activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Earth Day. His initiative quickly gained the support of most countries in the world and the United Nations.

DDennis Hayes has received top honors from the Sierra Club, the Commonwealth Wildlife Society, the Humane Society of America, the Solar Energy Society of America, the War Away Organization and the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility for his significant contributions to the environment.
