Solar Black Horse Assembly & Troubleshooting Guide
The Solar Black Horse Mechanical 3D Metal Puzzle Kit combines precision metal parts, a mechanical transmission system, solar power technology, and 3D-printed components to create a unique kinetic sculpture.
Like any mechanical model, proper assembly and adjustment are important for achieving smooth and stable movement. This guide covers the most common questions and troubleshooting steps to help you get the best experience from your Solar Black Horse.
1. What Materials Are Used in the Solar Black Horse?
The Solar Black Horse is made from a combination of metal components, mechanical parts, electronic elements, and precision 3D-printed pieces.

(1)Material Structure
Metal Frame and Outer Panels
The main structure and exterior panels are made from precision metal etched sheets. Each sheet is shipped with protective film applied on both sides to prevent scratches during production and transportation.
(2)Transmission System and Hardware
The mechanical system includes:
- Metal transmission shafts
- Size 12 bearings
- Set screws
- Screws
- Motor and electronic components
These parts work together to create smooth and stable mechanical movement.
(3)3D Printed Components
Some internal structural parts are made from high-precision 3D printed materials (such as PLA).
These printed components account for approximately 50%–60% of the total parts and are mainly used for:
- Internal structural support
- Connecting components
- Functional mechanical parts
They help ensure accurate fitting between components and maintain stable operation of the mechanism.
(4)Base Panel
The display base includes a black PVC decorative panel, providing a clean and elegant finish.
2. Important Material Care Tips
(1)Avoid Repeated Bending of Metal Parts
Metal etched sheets are designed for precise bending.
When shaping parts with angles such as:
- 30°
- 45°
- 90°
please bend them carefully into position in one movement.
Avoid bending the same area repeatedly back and forth, as this may cause metal fatigue and eventually lead to breakage.
(2)Remove Protective Film Carefully
When removing parts from the metal sheets:
- Remove only one side of the protective film first.
- Keep the other side covered until needed.
This helps:
- Prevent small parts from falling out and getting lost
- Reduce the risk of scratches from sharp metal edges

3. Motor Runs but the Horse Does Not Move?
If the motor turns on but the horse does not move, please check the following:
(1)Check Gear Alignment (Most Common Cause)
Please review Page 7 of the instruction manual.
Make sure:
- The left gear arm shaft is positioned at A side
- The right gear arm shaft must be correctly aligned with F side
Incorrect gear alignment can cause the mechanical system to lock and prevent movement.
(2)Check Leg and Joint Movement
Make sure:
- All legs and connecting rods move smoothly.
- Parts marked with the “rotation” icon are not tightened too much.
Over-tightened joints can increase resistance and prevent normal movement.
(3)Check Wiring Installation
Please check that:
- Wires inside the base and support column are not squeezed or damaged.
- Approximately 2 cm of extra wire length is reserved when arranging cables.

4. Why Does My Horse Have an Incorrect Walking Motion?
If the horse moves strangely, looks unbalanced, or appears to walk with the same-side legs moving together, the issue is usually related to assembly alignment.
(1)Reset Gear Timing
Incorrect gear timing is the most common reason.
Solution:
- Loosen the transmission shaft screw.
- Refer to Page 7 of the manual.
- Reset the left and right gear positions according to the A/F alignment.
(2)Check Leg Installation
Please check the leg assembly steps on Pages 14–17.
Make sure:
- Left and right legs are installed correctly.
- Front and rear connecting rods are installed in the correct order.
Incorrect leg installation can affect the natural walking motion.
5. Solar Power Mode Does Not Wor?
If the horse does not move under solar power, please check:
(1)Check Solar Module Connection
Refer to the wiring diagram on Page 25.
Make sure the solar module connector is properly connected and fully inserted.

(2)Check the Light Source
Please note that the Solar Black Horse requires strong, direct sunlight outdoors to operate properly.
If the horse does not move under weak or indirect light, this does not necessarily mean that the solar panel is defective or insufficiently sensitive. The main limitation is the available power output.
The solar panel has a limited surface area due to the compact design of the model. In simple terms:
Solar panel area × conversion efficiency = available power
A larger solar panel can generally generate more power under the same lighting conditions. Since the solar panel on the Solar Black Horse is designed to fit the model's compact structure, its power output is limited. Therefore, the motor requires higher-intensity sunlight to generate enough power for the horse's mechanical movement.
For the best performance, please:
- Place the Solar Black Horse outdoors under strong, direct sunlight.
- Make sure the solar panel is facing the sunlight as directly as possible.
- Avoid relying on weak indoor lighting, cloudy or heavily shaded conditions.
- Normal indoor lights, such as LED or fluorescent lamps, generally do not provide enough energy to start the motor.
In short: the solar system is designed to work with strong outdoor sunlight. If the light intensity is too low, there simply isn't enough power available to drive the motor.
6. The Model Makes Noise or Gets Stuck During Operation?
If you notice unusual sounds, increased resistance, or occasional sticking, check the following:
(1)Check the Transmission System
Review the parts shown on Page 8, including:
- D6 washers
- Size 12 bearings
- Size 10 screws
Make sure all parts are installed evenly and are not tilted.

(2)Check the Set Screws
Confirm that the black set screws marked with the screwdriver icon are properly tightened on the shaft.
Loose set screws may cause the transmission shaft to slip.
(3)Test Before Final Assembly
Before installing all outer panels:
- Turn on the model.
- Observe the movement.
- Adjust connecting rod gaps if necessary.
Testing early makes it easier to identify and solve mechanical issues.
7. What If Metal Parts Are Bent, Broken, or Missing?
(1)Prevent Missing or Damaged Parts
When removing parts from the metal sheet:
Follow the recommended method of removing only one side of the protective film first.
Keep unused parts protected until assembly.
This reduces the chance of losing small components.
(2)Adjust Slightly Bent Parts
If a metal part does not have the correct angle:
Examples:
- B5
- B11
- C8
(parts requiring 30°, 45°, or 90° bends)
You can carefully adjust them using flat-nose pliers.
